November 3, 2009 While Colorado State lost a 34-16 contest to the Air Force Falcons on Saturday, they lost in the living room this week too as Greeley (Colo.) offensive tackle AJ Frieler announced he was going to continue his football career next year at the Academy.Frieler, who preps at Greeley West High School held scholarship offers to Colorado State and Air Force. The 6-foot-5, 270-pound Frieler said he had been following the Rams and Falcons all season and liked both schools, but his family features a father and grandfather who are both military veterans and AJ said he feels that is a family tradition he wants to continue. "I did commit to Air Force," Frieler said on Tuesday night. "I come from a military background family, so I think that is the best fit for me. I like the structure of the offense. With the economy where it is, I think it is great to get a free education and a job out of college. I also think it is where I will get the best education." The commitment came this weekend after Frieler said he had more of a chance to talk with his parents, the Air Force coaches as well as seeing the players first-hand. "It was just seeing them play and how they work (that caused him to commit)," Frieler said. "I've had more opportunities to talk with the coaches and my parents. I just think I made my decision and needed to commit and move on." Frieler is leading a West team that is 9-0 so far this season going into their final regular season game of the year on Friday. |
