October 5, 2010Just about all of Central Michigan's 2011 commits were in action this past weekend, and many of them continued to show why the Chippewas thought so highly of them.
Quarterback Alex Niznak, Ithaca (MI)
-Niznak had an average day in the stat book for Ithaca, but it was in large part due to the opponent as he only played in the first half of a 69-6 win over Valley Lutheran. In two quarters of football Niznak would complete 3-6 passes for 15 yards and 1 touchdown and add 79 yards rushing on 4 carries. The win put Ithaca at 6-0 and they are currently ranked as the #1 team in Division 6.
Safety Denzel Wimberly, Cardinal-Gibbons (FL)
-Wimberly would have a big game in the teams homecoming game against Northeast. Cardinal Gibbons would hold on for a 27-20 OT win over the Hurricanes as Wimberly scored 2 touchdowns and ran for 70 yards on 13 carries. Cardinal Gibbons now sits at 3-2 overall.
Linebacker Tim Hamilton, Brother Rice (MI)
-As mentioned in the previous Prep Roundup, Hamilton and Brother Rice have been inconsistent all year and sitting at 2-3 overall, they faced a tough challenge in perennial power Orchard Lake St. Marys in week 6. Well...they stepped up and delivered. Hamilton and the Warriors defense would limit OLSM to just 183 total yards on offense in a dominating 26-3 win. Next on the schedule for Brother Rice? The #1 ranked team in the state in Detroit Catholic Central.
Offensive lineman Kenny Rogers, Holt (MI)
-Holt would top Everett 42-21 to improve to 4-2 on the season. Rogers and the offensive line would pave the way for 216 yards rushing and allow quarterback Jake Gallimore to complete 9-12 passes.
"Well we take it week by week, that's how we do things," said Rogers. "So now it's just beat Okemos, because that's who we have on Friday. We want to stay on top of the league, and if we beat Okemos we will still be at the top and we can just go from there."
Athlete Blake Serpa, Kaneland (IL)
-Kaneland would stay undefeated with a 42-7 win over DeKalb, and once again Serpa would have a major impact as he added a 46 yards touchdown run. The Knights are now 6-0 overall.
Wide receiver Jason Wilson, Farmington (MI)
-Farmington would improve to 6-0 with a tough 26-12 victory over Southfield. Wilson would be kept out of the endzone on offense, but recovered a fumble on defense to secure with win.
Offensive lineman Ramadan Ahmeti, Waverly (MI)
-Waverly would lose a tough game to St. Johns 29-8, despite leading 8-7 heading into the fourth quarter. Ahmeti would lead a strong Warrior rushing attack on offense and also add 9 tackles on defense.
"We came out ready and played them tough," said Ahmeti. "I can't fault the way we played early and we really felt like we had them."
Linebacker Cody Lopez, Plainfield North (IL)
-Lopez and Plainfield North would win a wild one against Oswego with a 49-43 victory. Lopez and the Plainfield North defense would struggle to defend the Oswego passing game as quarterback Ryan West completed 38-58 passes for 409 yards and 5 touchdowns. But...that would not be the most impressive performance. Plainfield North running back Kapri Bibbs, a Colorado State commit, broke the Illinois state rushing record as he tallied 520 yards and 7 touchdowns on 39 carries.
Linebacker Germaine Calmes, Rich Central (IL)
-Calmes and Rich Central would lose a tough one to Rich South as they allowed the Stars to drive 84 yards in the final minutes for a touchdown in a 30-23 loss. Calmes would have his worst game of the year, notching only 3 tackles after averaging over 10 per game coming in.
Tight end Ben Randle, Big Rapids (MI)
-Randle would do most of his damage as a lead blocker for Big Rapids running back Justin Currie in a 38-20 win over Chippewa Hills, but he still managed to impact the game in other facets. He would add 13 yards rushing on 5 carries and notch 2 tackles and 1 pass breakup on defense, and also serve as the teams kicker. Big Rapids now sits at 3-3 overall as they take on John Glenn this Friday.
