November 26, 2012COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Colorado State's senior center Colton Iverson has earned his second Mountain West Player of the Week honor of the young season after leading the Rams to a pair of tough road wins last week at in-state rival Denver and against Pac-12 foe Washington. The Mountain West made the announcement Monday morning.
Iverson, a native of Yankton, S.D., posted back-to-back double-doubles while leading Colorado State to the pair of road victories. He opened with 16 points and 13 rebounds in the Rams' 60-53 victory at Denver on Wednesday. Iverson was 6-of-11 from the field and 4-of-5 from the free throw line against the Pioneers, pulling down four offensive rebounds and notching a pair of assists in the contest.
He followed that performance three days later with 13 points and 12 rebounds in the Rams' 73-55 victory at Washington. Against the Huskies, Iverson shot 6-of-12 from the floor, and pulled down six of his 12 boards on the offensive glass while adding two assists.
For the week, Iverson averaged 14.5 points, 12.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game while shooting 52.2 percent (12-of-32) from the field and 71.4 percent (5-of-7) from the charity stripe.
Iverson becomes the first Ram since Jason Smith in 2006-07 to earn multiple weekly awards from the Mountain West. Smith won three that season before being drafted in the first round of 2007 NBA Draft.
In addition to Smith, Iverson joins Ceedric Goodwynn (1999-00), Brian Greene (2002-03) and Michael Harrison (2005-06) as the only Rams with two MW Player of the Week awards in the same season. Former all-league forward Andy Ogide also garnered multiple Player of the Week awards, winning once each in the 2009-10 and 2010-11 seasons.
