We would miss him at USM. Finally has things going in the right direction. I am guessing you guys are offering a bit more money?

Would be a good hire, though I'm not sure why HE would make that move, he was coming up in talks for power conference programs and the move from Southern Miss to Colorado State is rather lateral. Good from CSU's end though, the talks about hiring the interim would be a mistake, that rarely works out well, even if it means the recruiting class doesn't stay together this year. Schools that hire the interim are basically trying to keep the coach that just left through the assistant, but they're not the same guy, it usually works out for the first half of the first year and it falls apart. Lots of examples of that to look at.

he loved it out west in a previous stint. More money, better facilities (hard to imagine but true)...I would actually be pleased with hiring Craig Smith.

USM's BB facilities have been updated but the biggest lacking need if a stadium. Eustachy recruits well down south and has USM up and coming. I do agree it is a lateral move though. Any updates on this thread concerning CSU's hire?

Update per ESPN Rumors

"UPDATE: Colorado State reportedly interviewed New Mexico assistant Craig Neal as well as New Mexico State head coach Marvin Menzies on Friday, and Neal and Menzies now appear to be the frontrunners for the job heading into this week.

We'll let you know when we hear more."

Looks like things change quick.

ha, yes so very true. LE is still definitely in the mix though.

and now it sounds like Ernie Kent. This thing has been tough to follow.

It was interesting to watch the same press conference script we had when he came to Southern Miss it seems like an eternity ago. The "It will be my last stop" routine is an Eustachy classic. You will love him at first, and then wonder why you were duped into hiring him about three years into the contract. Good luck!

Iowa State fan and I disagree with the last post. Larry is really well liked in Ames and he is a hell of a coach. He has a very odd sense of humor which you will learn to understand. He is a good guy.

We are all extremely happy with our current coach, Fred Hoiberg but part of me still misses Larry. Like Plastic said, he has a self depricating dry humor. I miss that the most. I think he's one of the funniest guys I've ever listened to. He pushes players to the max. He truly has his act together it appears. Google some articles on him. He was a very good coach in Ames when he had problems. We would have liked to see what he could have done sober.

I think you got a great coach. His teams will always play hard, always defend, and rebound. The offensive possessions can be hard to watch at times, but Eustachy is a good coach who will move your program forward.

Ya, he really shouldn't have said that. He said the same thing at Southern Miss, he says it at Colorado State, and when a power conference program comes calling he'll say the same thing to them. Eustachy was VERY interested in the Kansas State job but KSU didn't want him. But then he turns around and says CSU is the place he really wants to be? Hmm...

Well even if he does leave CSU is going to get a massive buyout...$3.75mil if he leaves after one year and not less than a million if he leaves at any point during his contract.....

A lot different than the $350k buyout when Nebraska snagged Miles

Yes, that is a pretty big damn nut to agree to if you aren't committed for the long term. Props to JG for getting that in the contract.

We know all about valued possessions after Miles, he actually scored less points per game than LE's Eagles. We need the rebounds after ranking close to last (300th) in rebounding. Excited about Larry after watching him at ISU and following him at USM. As for those talking about his contract, the buyout is huge and the only way he makes money or wants to leave is if he is successful. Just win.
