Colorado sacks leader commits to CSU

The Rams received the first in-state commitment for their 2017 class on Thursday as Windsor (Colo.) standout linebacker Corte Tapia verbally pledged on Twitter to Colorado State.

Tapia is the state's career sacks leader with 39, and has one more prep season to add to that impressive total. Former Denver South and University of Miami star Calais Campbell, now with the NFL's Arizona Cardinals, places second behind Tapia with 38.

He finished his junior campaign with 15.5 sacks, helping Windsor to a class 4A state title. Rams head coach Mike Bobo and several of his staffers were among those in attendance for Windsor's 35-14 championship win over Loveland.

The 6-foot-2, 220-pounder with a 4.85-second forty attended CSU's junior day in the spring and the Rams' skills camp last week. He also held offers from Air Force, Montana, Northern Colorado, North Dakota, and Wyoming.

Tapia plays linebacker for Windsor and could play inside or outside linebacker in CSU's 3-4 alignment. He is the second linebacker to commit to CSU's 2017 class, joining Connor Kaminski of Florida, who pledged to the Rams in May. Colorado State is now up to seven verbal commitments for this year's recruiting class.

GoldandGreenNews.com will have much more on Tapia's commitment later this evening.
