Gallup is a Ram

Colorado State got back on the commitment column Monday night when El Dorado (Kan.) Butler Community College three-star wide receiver Michael Gallup pledged to CSU. He is the Rams' eighth three-star pledge for the 2016 recruiting cycle.

Gallup, who earned three-star honors as a prep coming out of Monroe, Georgia in 2014, had scholarship offers from East Carolina, Kentucky, Missouri, NC State, and Western Kentucky before enrolling at Butler County.

This time around, CSU and South Alabama were Gallup's only offers. He received that Ram offer during his official visit to Fort Collins this past weekend. It took only 24 hours after flying home for Gallup to publicly announce his commitment.

“I've just heard that it's a good program," Gallup told GGN prior to going on his CSU official visit. "I do like Mike Bobo, just because I've known him for a while and he's a good coach.”

As a freshman in 2014, Gallup caught 44 passes for 780 yards and 11 touchdowns. His production dropped dramatically in 2015 due to an ankle injury, limiting his action to just four games. He caught just 9 passes for 74 yards and a score in 2015.

CSU, however, was convinced that he was both talented enough and fully healed from that injury to add him to CSU's receiving corps, which will look much different in 2016 without the services of Rashard Higgins and Joe Hansley.

“They like that I can play a bunch of different positions, really," Gallup said of CSU's coaches. "I can play inside and outside wide receiver. They like how physical I am when I have the ball, because most of my catches are maybe ten yards, then I've got to do most of the work after that. They like how I block downfield and everything.”

Will Friend was Gallup's lead recruiter from CSU. Gallup will have three years to play two seasons as a Ram.
